Road Safety

Road safety is of paramount importance when using a powered outdoor mobility device. People using these devices must ensure that they are safe while out in their mobility device and must also look out for the safety of others using the roads and footpaths.

People using mobility devices are classed as pedestrians and as a result must obey the rules set out for pedestrians. The Green Cross Code highlights the rules that should be obeyed. These rules can be seen by clicking here.

Each person who receives help from the project, goes through a training programme on the Road Safety rules. The training is carried out over approximately six sessions and at the end, there is a Road Safety test to take to ensure that the rules are fully understood.

Below are a few things that are discussed during the training sessions and in the test itself. These are basic pointers to help keep the rider of the mobility device safe as well as other road users.
